Pyramidal Tracts

Definition: Nerve structures that begin in the sensorimotor areas of the cortex and go through the brainstem to the motor neurons of the spinal cord. The main functions of the pyramidal tracts are to control movement, including fine motor control and maintaining posture.

In multiple sclerosis (MS), lesions on the pyramidal tracts cause symptoms of spasticity, weakness and paralysis.
