Definition: A type of immune cell that does not produce antibodies, but binds to antigens with receptors on their surfaces. In autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), some types of T cells are "overactive" and actually attack the person's own cells. In MS, these T cells target myelin, causing inflammation and demyelination.
