Here's a nice story about how a service dog can make a big difference for someone living with multiple sclerosis (read the full story here). A woman, named Holly Zellmer, was beginning to have problems as her MS progressed. She heard about how service dogs might be able to help and applied to get one even though she was still semi-independent.
Her dog, a 2 year old Labrador Retriever, came from a group called the "Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota." She worked with the dog (named Gibson), developed a relationship and became a team to keep her independent. Gibson can pick up dropped objects, answer the phone, open a door, help her get up and down, stabilize her and help her balance.
