How Early Can MRIs Catch Multiple Sclerosis?

Wednesday December 17, 2008
Researchers looked over brain MRI scans and found 44 scans of people who had signs of MS in the brain, but no symptoms (they had come in to get a scan for other reasons). Within five years, one-third of those people were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Once more research is done, doctors may be able to "see into the future" to learn who may develop MS. The exciting part is that it may also let researchers observe a pre-MS condition that could help increase knowledge about how MS develops.

The study, by Darin Okuda, appeared in last Wednesday's edition of the journal Neurology.

The MRI shows multiple lesions, LP was positive, follow up MRI done 6 months later shows new lesions, yet there are no symptoms. It feels like I am waiting for the other shoe to drop and it terrible! What is a person to do?
