Changing Subject to Own Health Issues

After much angst, I decided to tell my co-workers about my dx. To me it was a special thing that I was sharing this with them. After telling one of them, she paused, didn't acknowledge what I'd just said and instead said, "You know I had a mole removed yesterday and it really hurts." Wow. I'm still dumbfounded about that one!

Fatigue...

I sometimes say, "Oh, I'm feeling so tired today," and I'll usually hear, "Yah, that's how I feel too." The only difference is that I've had MS for nearly 24 years, and they have no idea of what MS fatigue feels like! Frustrating!!!

Sick Note?

My GP was away. Locum, "I can't see anything wrong with you. I can't give you a sick note" (!)

TV shows

I told my friend at school that I had ms and she immediately and excitedly exclaimed : "THATS ON HOUSE!" and left it at that. I just walked away.

MS Specialist my foot

I was sent to see an MS Specialist due to my numerous symptoms. After listening to me for a couple minutes, he interrupted and said "You can't have MS as it doesn't cause pain and only effects females not men."

Medical Retirement - Why I tell no one.

I'm not ready to retire. I worked with a girl for 15 years. 11 years we both worked in the same Dept. When she got sick and said she would be out for a while. They just mailed her the retirement paperwork and said fill it out and return it. One year later I was dx.

Oh the judge

At my disability hearing, in the court room the Judge asked me how I got MS, and if there was a cure??!! Umm.. would I be there if there was a cure?!

Might As Well Laugh!

I was matron of honor for my sister's wedding in July, on Cape Cod and had to travel without my husband but with my 3 kids all under 5 yrs old. After a week of wedding prep, humidity, minimal sleep and single parenting I boarded the flight to return home and was slurring my words as I told my children to sit down. I heard a passenger a few rows back say "That mother is drunk and with those poor, sweet babies!" Her male companion said "If I had to fly alone with 3 kids, I'd tie one on too!"

Cure?

I was dxd in jan09. On gaining the disability pension the worker told me 'of course we'll review you in 2 years, just to see if your still eligable'. WOW if i knew there was a cure out there don't you think I would of got it by now?

???

When I was diagnosed in 2000, I was telling my mother-in-law. Her response was "How did your mother take the news"... So far that has been the stupidest thing said to me. Everyone has been more than supportive and will ask a question instead of saying something stupid.

because i am young...

"What?! That's an old person's disease!" No, it's an "every age" disease.
—Guest Dagnab

is that like spinabifida?

my dad was diagnosed with MS years ago and to this day people still ask him if it is a form of spinabifida. its appauling how little people know about the disease.

The Dumbest Thing...

I suffer from terrible fatigue, yet people are constantly telling me that if I exercised MORE, I'd feel better...they have no clue that the more I over-do it, the worse I feel!

Stupid is...as stupid does

I recently changed jobs about 4 months ago. When I was unable to do the job I was hired for, they gave me an easy job. Now some of my co-workers look at me like I am retarded. I told them that I have MS and a good many of them say "What's that"? The problem is that I think they have the attention span of a blink of an eye,so I don't bother to tell them. I just say "Look it up on-line". Bonbon

Oh, you'll be fine.

Everyone else seems to "have a friend with MS." I don't. So now that I'm newly dxd, I get a lot of "Oh, you'll be fine; my friend has it and she just has (fill in the blank)." I like how everyone else "knows" I'll be fine. I don't know that! The Dr. doesn't know that!
