As cognitive dysfunction is frequently a symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS), it is common for people with MS to be evaluated by a neuropsychologist, who can also provide treatment or rehabilitation for cognitive problems.
Neuropsychologists differ from psychotherapists, as they use several types of standardized tests to evaluate cognitive functioning and determine degrees of cognitive impairment, rather than discussing emotions or motivations. They differ from neurologists, as neurophychologists are PhDs (rather than MDs) who deal with the behavioral and cognitive aspects of MS, rather than the physiological effects of MS.
