Is this the oldest person with MS?

By October 30, 2012

Follow me on:

I recently saw this report of a man living until age 97 with multiple sclerosis. Besides the fact of his MS, he led a pretty remarkable life in Europe, living through WWII as a prisoner of war and having an illustrious career as an architectural photographer.

Has anyone heard of a person with MS who lived longer? I would love to hear any stories of other people who have lived to a ripe old age with multiple sclerosis. Please share in the comment section below.

Thank you for an uplifting story about M.S. I recently saw some film footage of the very reclusive Annette Funicello released by her husband with no way of knowing if she was O.K. with it as she was living her life, but not really living…more like existing. The fact that this man had lived fully and actively into his old age is so wonderful. It makes me wonder what makes the difference between him and AF? Amazingly strange disease, but I hope with furthering medical advancements being made, that we will hear a lot more of these typse of “happy” endings.

It would depend on when the 97 year old gentlemen was diagnosed with MS. He could have been diagnosed 3 years ago, or 90 years ago—although I wonder if MS has defined as an illness or disease back then. I would think the question should be how long has someone been diagnosed with MS and continued to live an active and remarkable life.
