Here's Johnny - New Multiple Sclerosis Documentary
Wednesday February 18, 2009
"Here's Johnny" is a documentary on the story of Johnny Hicklenton's fight against multiple sclerosis. Hicklenton is an graphic novelist who found a way to use his art to cope with multiple sclerosis.
A film company called Animal Monday followed Hicklenton for 5 years and created a one-hour documentary about his life. Here a quote from Johnny (as reported by the MS Society in the UK):
"Drawing is my walking now," Johnny says. "I can't wait to get a piece of paper and a pen now because I am in control. I haven't got MS when you're looking at my pictures, in fact I haven't got it when I'm drawing them either."
The film has won two Grierson Awards and is shown in various venues. If anyone has seen the film, please let us know what you thought in the comments. Also, let us know what you do to cope and escape from MS.
