Numbness and Tingling as a Symptom of Multiple Sclerosis
Tuesday May 6, 2008
Sure, other MS symptoms are worse, in terms of limiting our ability to do things. Some are more painful. Many are more embarrassing. However, I really, really hate this one. It is the persistence of it, the almost mocking nature of the nonstop tingly feeling that just plain makes me angry...

I get muscle spasims, stiffness, like you need to strecth out and can’t get out of it,dizziness, headaches, loss of balance, slurred speech, severe numbness, itching and a feeling of pins and needles, constipation, blood in stool, frequent of going to the bathroom even if I don’t drink, when I start to write anything its ok but as time goes by you can’t hardly see what I’m writing cause my hands become very painful and can’t use them for awhile,I’m 37 had a back fusion on 2 discs, artherities in back and neck have a disc in neck that is slipping out was paralized a couple years ago and flown to Toronto General by air helicopter.
i had that all the time growing up. i’d
tell my parents about it. they said ignore
it, your foot fell asleep. or your leg
fell asleep. or your hand fell asleep.
i believed them. i soon learned they
didn’t like kids who got sick or who
were a hassle. they were schoolteachers,
were already stuck with 40 kids in a classroom every day. they took me for
physicals and stuff but god forbid there
should be something wrong with me. sick?
too bad. if i had the flu real bad, home
remedies were often the case. they gave
me a lotta christian science stuff to read,
and related ideas. just do the best ya can.
there isn’t a cure for most diseases or
injuries. a sympathetic ear often helps.
but early they said, we don’t want to hear it.
complaining was like illegal. the cost
of illness or injury is so high, even though
we had health insurance. but as a group
i could affect their insurance. prevention
is a lot to hope for for many diseases and
injuries. i founded a company dedicated
to medical research in 1977. we sold it
later but it had to go into weapons research,
oddly enuff to stay in business. on the
one hand, we try to preserve life at all
costs, on the other, we try to perfect
more cost effective ways of destroying it.
a real dichotomous society. totally paradoxical. a society in conflict with
itself. i do a lotta of the ‘think’ yourself well. pray yourself well. sometimes
it doesn’t work. but sometimes it does.
who says miracles don’t happen. even if just
for awhile. keep hope alive. i get totally
discouraged myself much of the time. i preach better than i practice what i preach.
