Things to Try if You Have MS: Vitamin B12

People with MS are much more likely to be deficient in vitamin B12. The thing about B12 is that, if you are even a little deficient, you can have symptoms like fatigue, depression and memory loss, making these familiar MS symptoms feel even worse.

Honestly, it seems like swallowing would just be second nature, not something we have to think about in order to do safely. However, swallowing is a complicated process that involves all sorts of muscle coordination and feedback to and from the brain through certain nerves and neural pathways. Multiple sclerosis (MS) can damage any of these nerves, as well as the area of the brain responsible for coordinating swallowing, the brainstem. This can lead to swallowing difficulties, called dysphagia.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Multiple Sclerosis Book Review

Whenever I see something about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the context of multiple sclerosis (MS), I brace myself for either wildly fantastic claims of miraculous cures or academic disdain for any therapy that is not the result of an enormous multisite clinical trial. Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Multiple Sclerosis (2nd ed.) by Allen C. Bowling is neither. Rather it is an amazingly comprehensive guide to the world of CAM for those of us with MS, leading readers with a gentle, but authoritative, voice through things that seem potentially helpful, sometimes questionable and even downright scary.

This is an excellent reference book for anyone with MS. I urge you to get this book - you’ll find yourself reaching for it often and wonder what you did without it.
